# Sandbox Testing

> Test Batch Relay without production provider work.

Send requests to `https://api.batchrelay.com`. An anonymous `br_anon_` session
or account-owned `br_test_` key selects the public Test Mode lane; a request
field cannot select Test Mode or Live Mode.

Anonymous sessions follow the same public sandbox provider-selection and quote
rules as account-owned Test API keys. They add isolation,
expiration, and operation-specific quotas; they do not use a reduced fake API.

Provider offers and quotes are safe ways to test canonical validation,
provider availability, quote freezing, and idempotency. Test Mode records are
isolated sandbox shadows: they do not charge, submit to a live provider, or
promote themselves into a Live Mode order. Automated tests use mock transports
only.

  A successful sandbox response proves only the Test Mode operation. It is not
  payment or provider-submission proof.

Do not treat a provider's presence in catalog or offer discovery data as proof
that it can fulfill an order. The quote and order responses are the authority
for availability in the current environment.

## Studio-scoped sandbox management

Anonymous sessions intentionally cannot access studio, event, catalog, or
checkout-link management. Use an account-owned `br_test_` key with the exact
scope required by the operation and an authorized studio grant. Checkout links
also require the corresponding `print_orders:read` or `print_orders:write`
scope. A Test Mode checkout link returns a non-payable management record, not a
guest bearer URL. Its creation response has `preview_status: "non_payable"`
and no URL; use the authenticated checkout-link GET endpoint to inspect its
lifecycle record.

There is no implicit promotion path. Recreate an approved operation with a
Live Mode credential when you are ready to do Live Mode work; do not reuse a
sandbox record, quote, token, or idempotency expectation as a production
artifact.

Studio configuration is the narrow exception: a Live key with the required
studio grant can create a reviewed [sandbox promotion](/sandbox-promotions) for
forms, catalog, and storefront configuration. It does not promote checkout
links, events, temporary upload sessions, API idempotency records, or anonymous
sessions. Test checkout links remain non-payable and must be recreated in Live
Mode after promotion.
